Pop quiz: When is a hamburger, not a hamburger? Answer: When it is a Lamburger. JOE LAM comes up with an alternative to the takeaway joints even the kids can make at home.

LAMBURGER in a hurry

500gm of lamb mince
2 shallots finely diced
2 cloves of garlic finely chopped
Half a spring onion finely chopped
A sprig of mint finely chopped
A pinch of salt and a couple of grounds of cracked pepper
1 egg
1 cup of bread crumbs

2 tomatoes sliced thinly
1 avocado sliced into 8 slices
Roquette leaves or watercress

1 small pawpaw
6 leaves of mint fi nely chopped
4 Burger buns (I used wholemeal)
12 baby potatoes washed
Tablespoons of olive oil
1 sprig of rosemary chopped

Pre heat the oven to 180 deg Celsius.
Place the potatoes in a bowl
Add a tablespoon of olive oil
Salt and pepper
Mix well then place in a roasting tray.
Place in the oven to roast for about 40 to 45 mins until golden brown.
When ready take them out and put them aside keeping them warm.

While the potatoes are roasting
Place all the patties ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
Divide the patties into 4 equal amounts.
One by one, pat them into balls and slowly flatten them as you go.
Lightly flour the patties and put them aside.
Heat a little oil in a frying pan and cook the patties in it for about 7 to 8 minutes per side on medium heat until the juice from the patties run clear.
Alternatively you can use the barbecue grill if you have time.
While the patties are cooking, you can cut the pawpaw in half and scoop out the seeds and discard them.
Scoop out the flesh and contain in a bowl.
Using a fork, mash the pawpaw a little but leaving it a bit chunky.
Add the mint leaves, a pinch of salt and a little pepper.
